Bokissa Reef
Bokissa Reef is one of Vanuatu’s hidden underwater treasures, situated off the coast of Bokissa Island, which lies just across the channel from the larger island of Espiritu Santo. The island itself is blessed with lush greenery, serene beaches, and a laid-back resort, but it’s the waters beneath that truly captivate divers from around the world. Bokissa Reef offers a spectacular dive site that plunges dramatically into the deep blue, adorned with an array of colorful coral formations and a diverse range of marine life.
Divers venturing to Bokissa Reef are greeted by some of the best coral you will see anywhere, with sections of the reeef covered in soft corals, gorgonians, and sea fans that sway gently with the current. The visibility here is often outstanding, allowing divers to spot various marine creatures from afar, including reef sharks, barracudas, and even the occasional passing manta ray. Small crevices and overhangs along the wall are teeming with critters, making it an exciting site for both wide-angle and macro photography. Whether you’re a novice diver or a seasoned veteran, Bokissa Reef promises a mesmerizing underwater experience against the backdrop of Vanuatu’s pristine waters.
